Wills in Uruguay: How to Secure Your Last Wishes

In Uruguay, only open and closed wills executed before a notary are valid; holographic wills are not accepted.

Steps to execute an open will

  1. Appear before a notary with your identity document.
  2. Freely declare your asset and personal dispositions.
  3. Sign the notarial protocol, which is registered in the Wills Registry.

Can it be revoked?

Yes. A will is essentially revocable; a new will or a revocation act with the same formalities is sufficient.
