Trusts in Uruguay
Law 17,703 defines a trust as the legal arrangement whereby one person (settlor) transfers assets to another (trustee) to fulfill a specific purpose.
Types of trusts
- Administration: management of assets for the benefit of third parties.
- Guarantee: secures the fulfillment of obligations.
- Investment: channels funds toward projects.
- Testamentary: established upon the death of the settlor.
All trusts must be executed as a public deed and registered in the Trusts Section of the Property Registry.
